Well, Gorka Lasaosa is a warrior of art who has hobbies, and one of them is surfing. Apart from this, he also likes a bit of a nomadic life. Traveling and working on what I like to do, make my hobby my job.

How did you get introduced to the world of surfing?

It was through a shooting because there is something I really like to do, which is when I go to shoot outside, it's to see what can be done there or what activities there are or what natural areas can be visited.

And we went to shoot “Fuga de Cerebros” in Asturias, no, sorry, yes, Asturias. And I said, well, and what can Asturias give us? And I saw that there was a lot of surfing. I signed up for a surf class. I was filming at 10:00 AM, took the class from 8 to 8:30, and that day, the first day I caught a foam, I said I think this, this is going to be a long relationship.

So your role as an actor has been linked at some point with your experience with surfing as you tell me?

Well, I'm going to tell you something, I would. If I could surf an hour every day before going to shoot or doing whatever, that would be fantastic. But we could say yes, that the fact of having shot this movie a long time ago made me discover the coast of Asturias, which I think is probably without a doubt if not the one I like to surf the most, one of the ones I like the most. And it introduced me to this. Yes, yes. And besides, I started with many shooting colleagues and there is something that I always like to share, which is what I always tell my friends. I pay for their first surf class or I try to teach them or if they go to a place where I have friends, teachers, I tell them hey, give a class to this person and it runs on my account and the majority, 90% repeat.

Your favorite place in the world to surf, that you have surfed?

I haven't surfed in many places. But I have liked many. I would tell you that the south of the island of Kuta, yes, the south of Lombok. That impressed me a lot in Indonesia. Then there is a place where I go a lot, which is Punta del Hidalgo. The truth is that there are some lefts there that drive me crazy. Besides, it's all rock bottom and I really like it. And well, and Asturias, the truth is that I don't know Galicia, but I have the impression that I would love it. But the truth is that Asturias also has my heart stolen.

Do you have any anecdotes from any of your surfing trips?

Well, the typical, not always. They always tell you not to trust too much, that you have to go step by step and sometimes, yes, I have been living long seasons in Puerto Escondido and well, and I remember I remember one day I said well, I think I was surfing with a lot of consistency, I was improving little by little. And one day when some bombs were coming in at the point, in Punta Zicatela, I said Gorka dude, courage in the face of fear and I got in and nothing, I caught one of the waves too close to the rock and well, and I fell, obviously, then the washing machine and it dragged me towards the rocks and ... My goodness! I think that everything I had surfed taught me how to behave at that moment, because yes, at that moment I get nervous. I think it would have ended very badly. My leash got tangled with one of the rocks and well, I couldn't get out of there. So I remembered what people who know how to surf well always tell you, which is to stay calm, breathe. And be quiet and the truth is that I had a hard time. For a moment I saw myself with my face embedded in the rocks, but fortunately this great advice saved me. Stay calm. I breathed and I finally managed to get out. But I had to go home, because the scare I got was spectacular.

For you, how do you take surfing? As a lifestyle or as a sport?

Well look, I would really love to take it as a lifestyle, because there are many things with which I absolutely agree, but fortunately or unfortunately, I spend a lot of time here in Madrid, I don't have a car license which I would like to say that apart from that well, I haven't taken it, no, but we should be a little more careful with the issue of cars, travel and all this. Let's see, I haven't taken it because I haven't taken it. But it is true that I think there is something that should be taken into account in the issue of driving so much, there I drop it, let each one draw their reflection.

But it is true that when I manage to surf consistently there is something, there is a feeling that invades me, there is something else, I think it would be like a kind of inner peace that if it were up to me, it would make me, it would make me install myself in front of a beach that can be surfed and stay there and live with little, which in the end for me is one of the most wonderful things there is. Being happy with little and being able to enjoy what you like like surfing.

If you could live in a place right now that wasn't Madrid, where would you live?

In Tenerife.

What projects are you involved in right now beyond the world of surfing?

Right now I have finished a scholarship for a master's degree in film production and I am already in pre-production of a play. It would be my eleventh show as a producer and at the beginning of June I start shooting the new series by Álex de la Iglesia, which is called 1992.

¿Quien es Gorka Lasaosa?

Pues Gorka Lasaosa es un un guerrero del arte que tiene aficiones y una de ellas pues es surfear. Y que aparte de esto, también le gusta un poquito la vida nómada. Viajar y trabajar de lo que me gusta de hacer de mi hobby, mi trabajo.

¿Cómo te introdujiste en el mundo del surf?

Pues fue a través de un rodaje, porque a mí hay algo que me gusta mucho hacer, que es cuando me voy a rodar fuera, es ver que se puede hacer ahí o que actividades hay o que zonas naturales se pueden visitar.

Y nos fuimos a rodar Fuga de Cerebros a Asturias, no, perdón, sí, Asturias. Y dije bueno, y Asturias que nos puede dar? Y vi que se surfeaba un montón. Me apunté a una clase de surf. Yo rodaba a las 10:00 AM, hice la clase de 8 a 8:3 y ese día, o sea, el primer día que pillé una espuma, dije me parece que esto, esto va a ser una larga relación.

¿Entonces tu faceta como actor se ha visto ligada en algún momento con tu experiencia con el surf por lo que me comentas?

Hombre, yo te voy a decir algo, yo sí. Si pudiera surfear una hora cada día antes de ir a rodar o de hacer lo que fuera, sería fantástico. Pero podríamos decir que sí, que el hecho de haber rodado esta película hace ya un montón de años me hizo descubrir, la costa de Asturias que creo que es probablemente sin duda si no la que más me gusta surfear, de las que más. Y me introdujo a esto. Sí, sí. Y aparte, empecé con bastantes compañeros de rodaje y hay algo que sí que me gusta compartir siempre, que es, que es lo que siempre les digo a mis, a mis amigos y a mis amigas. Yo la primera clase de surf se la pago yo o les intento enseñar yo o si van a algún sitio donde hay amigos míos, profesores, les digo oye, dale una clase a esta persona y que corre de mi cuenta y la mayoría, el 90% repiten.

¿Tu sitio favorito del mundo para surfear, que hayas surfeado?

No he surfeado en tantos sitios. Pero sí que me han gustado muchos. Te diría que el sur de la isla de de Kuta, sí, el sur de Lombok. Eso me impresionó mucho en Indonesia. Luego hay un sitio que voy mucho, que es la Punta del Hidalgo. La verdad es que hay ahí unas izquierdas que me tienen loco. Aparte, pues es todo fondo de roca y me gusta mucho. Y bueno, y Asturias la verdad es que Galicia no lo conozco, pero tengo la impresión que me encantaría. Pero la verdad es que Asturias también me tiene, me tiene el corazón robado.

¿Tienes alguna anécdota de alguno de tus viajes surfeando?

Bueno, lo típico, no siempre. Siempre te dicen que no te confíes, que hay que ir paso a paso y alguna vez, sí que yo he estado viviendo temporadas largas en Puerto Escondido y bueno, y me acuerdo de me acuerdo un día que dije bueno, creo que estaba surfeando con mucha constancia, estaba mejorando poco a poco. Y un día que entraban unos bombazos en la punta, en punta Zicatela, dije Gorka tío, valor ante el miedo y me metí y nada, pillé una de las olas demasiado cerca de la de la roca y bueno, y caí, evidentemente, pues la lavadora y esto me arrastró hacia las rocas y ... Madre mía del amor hermoso!. Yo creo que lo que sea todo lo que había surfeado me enseñó cómo comportarme en ese momento, porque sí, en ese momento me llego a poner nervioso. Creo que hubiera acabado muy mal. Se me enganchó el leash con una de las rocas y bueno, no me podía, no podía salir de ahí. Entonces recordé lo que siempre te dice la gente que sabe surfear bien que es mantener la calma, respira. Y estate tranquilo y la verdad es que las pasé canutas. Por un momento me vi con la cara empotrada en las rocas, pero afortunadamente este gran consejo pues me salvó. Mantener la calma. Respiré y finalmente pude salir. Pero me tuve que ir a casa, porque el susto que me llevé fue espectacular.

¿Para ti como te tomas el surf? ¿Cómo un estilo de vida o como un deporte?

Pues mira, yo la verdad me encantaría tomármelo como un estilo de vida, porque hay muchísimas cosas con las que comulgo absolutamente, pero por suerte o por desgracia, yo paso paso mucho tiempo aquí en Madrid, no tengo carnet de coche que me gustaría decir que aparte de que bueno, pues no me lo he sacado, no, pero habría que tener un poquito más de cuidado con el tema de los coches, los desplazamientos y todo esto. A ver si no me lo he sacado porque no me lo he sacado. Pero sí que es cierto que creo que hay algo que debe tener en cuenta en el tema de ir tanto tanto en coche, ahí lo suelto, que cada uno, que cada una, saque su reflexión.

Pero sí que es verdad que cuando consigo surfear de manera constante hay algo, hay una sensación que me invade, hay algo más, una yo creo que sería como una especie de paz interior que si fuera por mí, me haría, me haría instalarme delante de una playa que se puede surfear y quedarme ahí y vivir con poco, que al fin y al cabo para mí es de las cosas más maravillosas que hay. Ser feliz con poco y poder disfrutar de lo que te gusta como el surf.

¿Si pudieras vivir en un sitio ahora mismo que no fuera Madrid, dónde vivirías?

En Tenerife

¿En qué proyectos andas metido ahora mismo más allá del mundo del surf?

Ahora mismo he acabado un máster que me han becado de producción cinematográfica y ya estoy en preproducción de una obra de teatro. Sería mi decimoprimer espectáculo como productora y a principios de junio empiezo a rodar la nueva serie de Álex de la Iglesia, que se llama 1992.

Pues ya estaría.
